Meet Peter

PROFESSIONAL TUTOR

A Life-Long Dedication To Learning

Peter has been a teacher, tutor, and educator since graduating from Yale University in 1991 with a degree in Classical Languages, focusing on Greek and Latin. After finishing college Peter began work teaching Math and Latin at the two Jesuit high schools of the San Francisco Bay Area: St. Ignatius College Prep and Bellarmine College Prep. During this time, he also studied and performed clarinet extensively, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Clarinet Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Individual private tutoring had always been a component of Peter’s teaching, and in 1999 he went full-time, staying at St. Ignatius as the on-campus tutor until 2010. During this time he also earned a Master’s Degree in Liturgical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley.

Planting Community Roots

Family has always had a strong pull, bringing Peter and his wife, Rev. Julie Cedrone, home to their New England roots every summer at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. Their family was growing, and with three children they knew that it was time to come home for good. Peter quickly built a clientele in the Northborough and Southborough communities and became an on-campus staff tutor at St. Mark’s School, starting in January, 2011. Since then, Peter has supplemented his individual tutoring with summer SAT/ACT test preparation, helping students crack the code of these standardized tests.

Testimonials

“We will be forever thankful that fate had us cross paths with Peter Arvantely. His never-ending patience and confidence-inspiring approach to learning were a huge part of our daughter’s academic success in high school and helped her fulfill her dream of living in New York City while graduating from NYU. Now living and working in London, she still fondly remembers her study sessions! “
– Linda & Dominique Bonino, San Francisco

“Peter Arvantely was without a doubt a wonderful fit for both our son and daughter for both tutoring in general subject matter and for highly specialized test taking set skills, I would not hesitate to recommend and use him again!”
– Carrie Alpert, Southborough, MA

“We appreciate Peter’s tutoring so much that we have sent not one, not two but all three of our teenagers to him! He has helped them all with both SAT tutoring and more general help with high school, including physics, chemistry, and Latin. His help has been particularly valuable during the interruption to school caused by the pandemic. I can’t say enough about the difference he has made for our kids, pushing them to levels far above our expectations. He has a nice demeanor and a genuine enthusiasm for learning that the kids really like. And there seems to be no subject or topic he can’t handle.”
– Jim Bodor, Grafton, MA

“Peter is an awesome teacher. He is patient and really connects with his students. We have used Peter’s services for the past three years and we have three more to go. Thanks Peter.”
– Mike & Jane Pellini, Shrewsbury MA

“Peter tutored our daughter in geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, physics, and writing during high school. Later, during college, our daughter worked with Peter on statistics. The critical thinking skills she developed helped her become a member of the Writers Guild of America after college.”
– Sandy, San Francisco CA

“I worked with Peter Arvantely for many years in person, pre-COVID-19, while he tutored several of the students I worked with at Saint Ignatius College Prep here in San Francisco. He was always thought of as the ‘go-to’ tutor. You could count on Peter to be both approachable and very very knowledgeable. He is one of the smartest people I know who also has the gift of being a kind and gentle teacher. I have known Peter for over 15 years professionally and would not hesitate a second to refer students, colleagues, and friends to contact Peter if they ever need a tutor. You are in excellent hands!”
– Sarah Merrell, Counseling Department, Saint Ignatius College Prep, San Francisco
